After a
long needed deep sleep, I woke up at my usual time of about 5
a.m. - Trouble was, it was only 3 a.m. in Seattle !
I got up, visited the bathroom, and went back to
bed....tossed and turned.....just drifted off
when the
phone rang for our wake up call. We got up, got dressed
and called Jack and Ida's room. Jack was still sleeping.
He stayed at the rehearsal and did some partying.
Since
we arrived late Friday afternoon, we HAD to get the tux
altered Sat. morning. (The wedding was at 6 p.m.)
I called the groom at his hotel room, (the bride and her maids
kicked them out of the house for the night) he was still
sleeping and remarked that he would be at our room around
noon.
Jack
and Ida, Ray and I had breakfast and then took a scenic drive
around the
area. We found a small park and took pictures and then
drove around Lake Sammamish and gawked at all the gorgeous
houses, wishing we could afford one of them. We
got back to the hotel in time for
the boys
to show up. I reminded Scott that his Pop's tux needed
some alterations. He panicked, as the shop closes at 1
p.m. and it is noon.
While
Scott and his Pop got the alterations done, the rest of the
boys got dressed in our hotel room. To give them
privacy, I went to Jack and Ida's room to watch a race on
television. Finally, Scott and Ray got back....
Scott got
dressed with the help of his guys and then I helped Ray get
dressed. It was after 2 p.m. and we were supposed to be
at the house for pictures by now !!!! I still had to get
ready, so I boot Ray out and told the
boys to
help him finish dressing out side while I tried to get ready !
Finally, we were all ready and on our way.
Scott
and Lisa's wedding was an outdoor ceremony in their back yard,
the Cascade Mountains. As the caterers were setting the
chairs in 'pew' fashion, a beautiful doe came out of the
forest and stood watching the proceedings.
Not one
person moved, no one even grabbed a camera, we were all in
shock ! Scott said that was nothing unusual. She
soon got bored and bounded off back into the woods. What
a beautiful sight she was....
was this
to be an omen that Lisa and Scott would have a peaceful life
together?

The
usual wedding pictures were taken. Since I am the
step-mother of the groom, I tried to stand back and be as
unobtrusive as I could. I thought it was unusual that
the photo session would be before the wedding, therefore,
the
traditional thing of the groom not seeing the bride until she
walks down the aisle is broken, but everyone gasped as she
walked down the hill from the house in her dress....she was
so beautiful!!!! So tiny and petite ! Scott couldn't
help himself.....he had to give her the most wonderful hug and
kiss ever !
The
photos were taken and it was time for the wedding. The girls
in the wedding party had gone back to the house to freshen up
the make up, etc. As a last stand at being a rebellious
single guy, Scott decided long before the wedding that he was
getting married barefooted, so the entire wedding party decide
to go barefoot ! Even the judge that was performing the
service was sans shoes !! Leave it to Scott to make his
wedding a memorable one! The wedding was
beautiful, and different. The judge had the entire
wedding party facing us and she had her back to us all during
the ceremony. Her statement was, "You came to this
wedding to see Scott and Lisa, not me, therefore you will see
only my back and their faces" It was very nice to
be able to see them give each other their vows and exchange
rings. Nothing really unusual about the ceremony.
At the close of the ceremony, the bride and groom walked
back down the aisle and up the hill to have a few private
moments together. The guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and
drinks.

(Notice the bare feet)
While
the wedding was taking place, the chef of the catering company
was busy grilling chicken, shrimp and salmon. Following
the ceremony, the reception was held a few feet away under a
mammoth tent. Round tables,
adorned
with white, damask table cloths and huge candles. The
chairs were quickly moved from the 'pew' setting to the
tables. The bride and groom came down and mingled with
the guests instead of having a reception line.
Dinner
was served buffet style and instead of the traditional wedding
cake, 7 different cakes are offered.
A swing
band played and the first dance for the bride and groom was a
jitterbug ! Barefooted, no less ! It was early,
but Pop and Uncle Jack both were hurting a little from bad
backs and bad hips. We said our good-byes
and
quietly slipped away to find the hotel. We did not get
lost, will miracles never cease???
